On a typical day, I’ll visit Facebook a few times to check up on friends and family, upload photos to Flickr, listen to music on last.fm, read up on the latest movies (Flixster) and books (Goodreads), and find a good restaurant using Yelp. And don’t get me started on Twitter – that’s definitely my favorite tool out of the bunch!
Some people may think that social networking is a waste of time. While I agree that playing Farmville for hours on end is a total time suck, social networking websites can be used to:
- Connect with old (and make new) friends.
- Find people who share your same interests.
- Communicate with your family, teachers, and co-workers.
- Expand your knowledge base.
- Share ideas with people far away.
- Create brand awareness and monitor reputation, specifically for businesses.
- Find a job!
There are literally hundreds of social networking websites across the Internet, big and small, with more popping up everyday. Below are some of my favorites! All free! What are yours?
